Conventional Built-Up

If you want time tested, proven performance, then conventional built-up roofing might be the right choice for you. These systems are traditional hot asphalt-applied, utilizing multiple layers of fiberglass roofing felts and then surfaced with a mineral-faced cap sheet, or in some cases gravel. The primary material components are still extremely cost-effective versus other choices; however, labor is more intensive, as the systems require 3-5 layers of felts. This builds tremendous tensile strength within the system, and offers superior weather resistance as redundancy is built into the system.

In depth knowledge

Experience

Latite has been installing conventional built-up roofing since 1943. With more than 80 years of experience, you know we have the knowledge to do it right. We offer conventional BUR systems from GAF, Johns Mansville and Firestone.

Safety comes first

Asphalt Tankers

Unlike our competition, Latite has invested in a fleet of self-contained asphalt tankers in lieu of dangerous asphalt kettles. By being self-contained, we eliminate potential flare ups and kettle fires, which can occur quickly and without warning. Our tankers heating system is also computer controlled, which means the application temperature of the product is maintained precisely, in compliance with manufacturer guidelines. Utilizing modern asphalt tankers keeps your job site and our men safer, as well as ensuring a higher quality roofing application.

Built-up Roofing has it

Redundancy

One of the best properties of conventional built-up roofing is redundancy. When you take 3-5 individual plies of roofing felt and essentially weld them together using hot asphalt between each layer, you end up with a unit that is strong and offers multiple layers of protection. When an A/C technician drops a screw and steps on it, a BUR System will likely keep the screw from penetrating all the way through, and still provide you with a leak free assembly. Do that with most 45 mil single ply membranes, and you now have a leak. Built-up offers higher tensile strength and redundancy as key ingredients to its long term success in the industry.
